How to detoxify (for real)

Hi Reader,

Let's face it, we live in a bit of toxic world don't we?

There's plastic in everything, GMO's & pesticides in our food, pthalates and BPA's in many of our household products -

Not to mention, as a Flight Attendant, I'm constantly exposed to radiation. And...who knows what else...

As someone with an autoimmune condition (Hashimoto's), I constantly need to prioritize my wellness and keep inflammation down.

So I am constantly "biohacking" and researching and experimenting with ways to feel my best. A big part of that is constantly "detoxifying" from toxins that I'm exposed to.

But doesn't the body "naturally" detoxify itself?

Well, ideally yes.

But our current environment is a far cry from the ancient world that our ancestors were "detoxifying" from.

Additionally if you have the MTHFR gene mutation like I do (40% of the population has it), your body may have an even more difficult time detoxifying. (you can let learn more about MTHFR in this video)

Autoimmune disease has been increasing globally, with estimates of the yearly increases at 19.1% (source: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9918670/). A huge component in this is the toxic load that we are exposed to.

I don't say this to scare you, I promise!

It's about awareness and about what we can do to manage this toxic load - and prevent it from causing inflammation and further issues.

So in addition to my regular stack of vitamins - D3, Magnesium, methylated B vitamins, etc -

There are two other supplements that I've added this year that have been game changers.

One of them is NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine), a powerful antioxidant. It's helped me with my Hashimoto's fatigue and brain fog (fatigue is a serious issue with Hashimoto's) like nothing else could.

I am incredibly grateful to this supplement for giving me my energy back!

The other supplement that I've added recently, both for myself and for my husband and daughter, Is something called EnergyBits.

This is technically a food rather than a supplement.

EnergyBits are tiny chewable tablets made up of either Chlorella or Spirulina - or both.

Spirulina is an energizing, nourishing blue green algae.

Chlorella is a detoxifying and immune health supporting green algae. Chlorella binds to heavy metals and toxins in the body and pulls them out through your...poop!

I take a combination of both Spirulina and Chlorella (their VitalityBits blend).

Not to mention - Spirulina is very high in plant-based protein! (3 x the amount of a steak!) It's also been named by NASA as the most nutritionally dense food in the world.

I'm often asked how one can get more protein in their diet - well this is one easy way!

It's also an easy way to get more greens into your diet 😊

You could just buy either Spirulina or Chlorella powder off of Amazon, however sourcing is extremely important with algae.

ENERGYbits has safe, pure algae grown organically in fresh water and it’s free of iodine (important if you have Hashimoto’s like me!)

Another thing that I really like about this product is that it's very easy to take along with me on my travels (or just to pop in my mouth on the way to an appointment!).

The taste is just fine- not wow - (there's no sugar added), but just like...algae. Kind of grassy.

I don't mind the taste and my 7 year old doesn't either but you could also just blend this into a smoothie as well, or even just swallow them (they're really small).

I don't mean to sound like a commercial for them, I promise! I've just been pretty impressed with these little guys, more than I expected to actually.

I originally bought them for my daughter, who was struggling with some OCD issues.

Her doctor was at a loss for suggestions, so I did my own research.

Turns out there have been a few small studies showing success in treating OCD with Chlorella. (there was also some anecdotal evidence on Reddit from people who had success). I figured it was worth a try, so I did!

Her symptoms improved within a week of taking this. Not disappeared, no. But significant improvement - I'll take that as a win!

I've also been finding for myself that the EnergyBits are a great source of energy (I guess that's where the name comes from...).

I've been doing a lot of Redeyes to Seattle lately and these are quite helpful in recovering faster (and certainly better than yet another espresso!).

If you'd like to try out EnergyBits, you can get 20% off your order using my link or buy using the code AMALIA at checkout.

I do have an affiliate relationship with them but that happened only after first purchasing and trying them for myself! I will only ever recommend things that I first try and find value from ❤️

I'll be talking more about supplements in a new video that's coming soon - stay tuned!

And if you have any questions on any of this, hit "reply" to this email and I'll try to answer asap.

Wishing you a beautiful Sunday! 🌸

Dear Reader, A week ago, I had to go fly another redeye flight to Seattle. (Yes I’ve been doing a lot of these lately, I actually like them! 🤣) I was in a crappy mood that day. Not for any particular reason, just feeling kind of blue. Inadvertently glancing at world news didn’t help much either :/ But then, something happened on the plane once boarding started. Two little boys came on the plane, wide-eyed. Their mom told me it was their first flight ever and I asked if they would like to take...

Hi Reader, In-person connection feels more important than ever these days. I’ve just returned from Boise, Idaho, from the Craft + Commerce conference for creators (how many C’s were in that sentence?! 🤣). It was my second year attending and it was just what I needed right now. With current events in the news seeming darker and darker, sometimes it’s hard not to get sucked in and feel like that’s all there is. But after a few days spent walking in nature, listening to inspiring keynotes and...

Hi Reader, A question that I'm often asked is - Are vitamins and supplements are actually worth it? And if so...which ones to take?? I get it. There's an overwhelming amount of info out there on which supplements you must take - and then others who say that supplements are just giving you expensive pee 🙄 (a catchy statement but I can quickly disprove that one with my bloodwork, which I do twice a year at a minimum). So as to which supplements you should take - for the most part that is...
