Hi Reader, Did you know the second Friday of every January is actually known as quitter’s day? Meaning, the day that most people abandon their New Year’s resolutions. The weather is not helping matters either. Even normally sunny Miami has been pretty gloomy and chilly 🥶 Maybe like me, you started out the new year excited for the possibilities and with a list of things that you would like to work on, or goals to meet. Actually, I was feeling pretty great! Until - I got hit with a really bad cold last week. I know that no one likes being sick, but I honestly HATE being sick. I was also incredibly frustrated that I was sick yet again, after just recovering from another bad cold in November. I pride myself on taking very good care of my health, but working lots of extra hours on the plane lately (more on that here if you haven’t seen it yet) - including lots of red eyes - probably did not help my immune system too much 🤔 Somehow, this cold didn’t just make me feel like crap, it also took a toll on me emotionally. I had been pretty cheerfully busy and now all of a sudden I was forced to slow down. And not in a fun way, like for a vacation. Being forced to slow down so that you can blow your nose for the millionth time definitely does not feel luxurious. And unfortunately, being sick does not excuse you from the regular life tasks like bills and taxes and chores and so I had to find some motivation. Author Tim Ferris is famous for asking the question “What would this look like if it were easy?”. I love this question and I like to personally add to it - “What would this look like if it were fun?” Luckily, I do recover much more quickly from colds than I ever used to. But one of the hardest things for me to do once recovering from the worst of it was to get back to working out. I really had zero motivation other than I knew that I was going to feel like crap if I didn’t do it. In fact in just the few days that I couldn’t work out, I could barely sleep because my hip started hurting. So I knew that skipping it was definitely not an option. So I made it easy. I put on my sports bra. That’s always my first step. Once that’s on, I know there’s no turning back. I took out my weights (I always have weights in my closet because I prefer to work out from home). Then I made it even easier. I put on one of my favorite YouTube channels, BodyFit by Amy. She’s a personal trainer and she has tons of workouts. Sometimes I do the full workout, sometimes I just do half of it. But on the days that I really do not want to do it at all, having Amy cheerfully tell me what to do, really gets me moving. And the fun part? I’m allowed to watch 10 minutes of a show that I like afterwards. I tend to be pretty reward oriented ;) Sometimes all we need is to make a task a bit more fun. And sometimes it’s easier when you have someone guiding you and cheering you on. Here’s where I can help - As a health coach, I can help you make a personalized plan that will get you the goals that you want. And - I’m here to cheer you on and help you to clear out any obstacles along the way. Whether you just need a one time session to get some clarity or you’d like to have me as an ongoing member of your team, I’m here for you. And if you’d like to schedule a quick free phone call first to see if it’s a good fit, simply reply to this email or head over here to learn more about my coaching style. New Video Alert 🚨 Need a virtual break from the cold? Hi Reader, Yesterday I was flying a trip with Will, a coworker that I went to flight attendant training with 11 years ago. We were reminiscing about classmates and I mentioned our mutual friend Rolo. Will smiled and said, “Rolo really is the most interesting man in the world. “ And I knew exactly what he meant by that. "The Most Interesting Man in the World", probably the funniest ad campaign ever! For context, Rolo is in his 60s, but he has more energy in enthusiasm than many 20 year-olds...
Hi Reader, Many years ago I took a psychology class and they taught us a concept for dealing with stress known as “5 minute vacation”. The concept is that whenever you're overwhelmed with stress, just taking 5 minutes to rest and imagine yourself on a lovely vacation can dramatically lower your stress levels. I'm currently recovering from the worst asthma exacerbation I've had in over 3 years. Ironically, this has forced me to rest. I'm honestly not very good at resting. I like to be busy and...
